BlueHost

Bluehost is my 2nd-Most-Best pick. I've had several accounts with them for over four years and there's never been a problem they haven't fixed (somewwhat) quickly and politely. Their uptime is near-flawless, and their service is articulate, knowledgeable, and, enthusiastic.

BlueHost Web Hosting Review

Blue Host Overview:

Big Blue, as we like to call them, has reached an incredible level of success in twelve years by winning customers over with an excellent hosting package. I've had several different accounts with them since early 2004 and been spoiled by the great value, consistently high level of customer service, and wide variety of extra features available for webmasters. With their incredible service and excellent reliability Bluehost was my top pick for a long time, but in the last year they've fallen to number two as a result of some customer service issues. I put them at #2 for their continuous status as an overall excellent host.

Blue Host Value:

Blue Host has one hosting plan. At $6.95/mo for 150 Gigabytes of storage, 15000 Gigs of transfer, 2500 emails, and unlimited addon domains, they offer a sizable package for a great price. The ability to host unlimited additional addon domains definitely adds to the value. If you need a lot of capacity or want room to expand in the future, BlueHost is the way to go.

Blue Host Service:

Since 2004 when I opened my first account with Bluehost I have been largely impressed and satisfied with their non-outsourced, un-heavily-accented, college-educated support staff. 24/7 (toll-free) phone and email support has been there when I've called, day or night. But while the quality of the support remains steady, in the last year I've had several instances of extremely long hold times. 30 minutes was the longest. When my site's down, 30 minutes feels like forever, so by the time I got someone on the line I let 'tm have an earful. But "we're hiring new supporot staff to handle the growth" only works once. Fool me twice... Many of the hosts here offer similarly-sized hosting packages so for me what makes a great host is their customer service. Bluehost's service level is excellent, but they need to improve their response time if they want to reclaim the top spot. Live chat would also be appreciated.

Blue Host Reliability:

Great reliability with an average 99.8% uptime. UPS and Diesel generator backup. Blue Host's data center is located within a secure building with state of the art. 24/7 security, disaster readiness, and power backup. Their data center is in the same building as their headquarters, making technical response to issues immediate. I haven't seen a site down on their servers since I started with them in 2004.
